What to expect for your family session
I absolutely love family sessions, I personally try to get ours done at least once a year, sometimes twice. Things just change so fast, I don’t want to miss any changes. With family sessions I love if you incorporate your animals, I understand fur children are children too. I want to give you exactly what you want, so if you have a horizontal photo above your couch you want to replace, let me know and I will make sure I get some great horizontal shots.
What do I wear?
This is the most common question I get asked. I normally suggest that you pick a 3-color combination. Have one color be a neutral color (gray, brown, cream, white) and the two accent colors. Don’t be too matchy, matchy, break the colors up. Layers on girls combining two colors to pull it together always helps. Solid colored shirts are best, avoiding logos that can be distracting. Invest in a nice pair of jeans or dress pants. Make sure you are dressed your best from head to shoes. I personally get my hair and makeup professionally done for all my pictures I have taken. It is not that I want to look completely different then I do everyday, but I don’t want to stress about my hair not turning out that day, and what women doesn’t want to be pampered. If this is something you are interested in I have a great contact that does amazing work. If in doubt of what you should wear hit the internet, pintrest is great at getting ideas. If there is a specific pose you want to do, send me the link, or print off the picture the day of. I want to give you the image you want, what better way then if you show me exactly what you want.
Be prepared to get down and dirty
Most the time to achieve beautiful poses that look natural and effortless, I have to pose you in odd and uncomfortable positions. There is nothing more beautiful and intimate then a family cuddled up on the ground of a field. Trust me this is the pose that your husband is going to grumble about and complain it is uncomfortable, but I can almost promise it will probably be your favorite.
What time of day should we do the session?
There are certain times of day where lighting is better for outdoor sessions. Don’t get me wrong I can make other times of the day work, but they will never look as good as prime lighting time. Let me tell you what time prime lighting is (it changes throughout the year). Except for fall family pictures when I am extremely busy, I typically only book one session a night to try and insure you get the best lighting. Keep this in mind if you want the best lighting during my busy time, you will need to book way in advance, they fill up extremely quick. This is the same for weekend sessions, Friday and Saturday sessions fill up very quick. I do not do any family sessions on Sundays. This is reserved for time with my family.
I want to do a session with my extended family, can we do that?
There is a slight price difference for extended family sessions, but I am more then willing to do these sessions. I suggest you tell your family the session is 20 minutes before the actual scheduled time, because someone is probably going to be late. Like I mentioned earlier I plan most my sessions around prime lighting so every being 10-15 minutes late can cut your session short because it will start to get dark.
How many poses will we do?
Most family sessions we do 2-3 family poses, individuals of all the kids, and a couple pose with mom and dad. Children fall apart very quickly so the faster I can work the better your session will be.
After the session
