What to expect birth stories
I think birth stories are the most beautiful thing in the world. I do my best to make it to my birth sessions, but if you are looking into booking with me I have most likely explained to you that I also work as a nurse, and I cant promise I will be there. If you have a scheduled induction, or C-section I can usually always move things around if you give me enough notice.
When should you book your birth story?
The answer is ASAP. I will put your due date on my schedule and limit the amount of sessions I do during that time, and plan not to be out of town.
When will I come to the hospital?
If you go into labor, let me know as soon as possible. Keep me updated when you reach the hospital, when they check you into triage, and how far you are progressed. From my personal experience I was in so much pain I just wanted to lay there, and cry. Lucky for me my husband kept my photographer informed for me. It is usually easiest to text me to keep me updated 801-695-7258. I will typically come to the hospital when you are dilated to a 6, or when they break your water. Keep in mind that many hospitals limit how many people are allowed in the room.
What if I don’t make it to your birth?
If I am unable to make it to your birth, your $100 down payment will cover an fresh 48 hospital session later that night, or the following day. This gives you the opportunity to have hospital style images still, and have siblings in pictures
What if you have a C-section?
If you end up having a C-section planned or emergency. I will give your partner/or person going into surgery with you a quick run down on my camera and I will put my camera on settings that they will be able to shoot with.
What view do I shoot from?
Unless you tell me otherwise I will assume you would like “modest shots” I am more then willing to go down to the bottom of the bed and shoot from that angle if that is what you would like. Typically I will be at the top of the bed, pretty much right behind your head. From this view I basically capture the view you can see, and lets be honest most the time by the time you are giving birth you are too big to see down there, so this allows for modest shots. If you are ever uncomfortable and would like me to step out just let me know I will not get offended.
How long after the birth will I stay?
Typically I will stay about 30-45 minutes after your birth. This gives me time to photograph them weighing the baby, you and your partner holding the baby for the first time, and if you would like the first time you breastfeed. If your baby ends up in the TLC unit where I am not allowed I can take pictures through the window, and also send my camera in with dad to take pictures. If you have children at home, that wont be meeting the baby till later I am more then willing to come back for a fresh 48 session at a discounted price of $90.
After the session
